Did you ever come upon an old farmhouse?
Looking as if it might have a history? Peaceful and secure as if it had grown into and become a part of Mother Earth? Such a one has seen a heap of living loving and dying. To it came a new family to take possession in 1795 - a man and his wife and their three children. They would build and cultivate and beautify and labor cheerfully for it would be their own, their very own home.

….To this place, high on a ridge and sloping down to Peach Lake came great, great grandfather Eleazer, Mary his wife and three little ones…..with nothing on their mind but their own affairs, he loaded an ox cart, piled the family into the lumber wagon and plodded along on foot by horse and cattle. They carried bags of geese, ducks and squawking chickens.

…..The olden days were not all work, neither are the present days all play….Yes, this old home has seen a great deal of living. It has brought the blessings of happiness and contentment with it. Everything there seems to speak of years of peaceful living and as if they will be the same forever and a day.

Established in the old garden of the Ryder Family Homestead, Great, Great, Great Grandchildren Betsey and John, continue in the tradition of working the land.
